Police Log: It May Be Harder to get the News in Benicia

A stolen newspaper rack may mean a tougher time staying abreast of the news for some residents.

The last weekend before the election was relatively quiet n Benicia.  There was the odd loud party and a hit and run on East Second Street, but no onw was injured and the barking dog decided to stay indoors.  His cousin the escaped dog was in an alley on the West Side and caused its person some embarrassment when police were called to investigate a prowler.

12:22 a.m.: An employee at a business on Mallard accidentally set off the alarm.

9:29 a.m.: Officers began investigating the theft of a newspaper rack on Southampton Road.

2:35 p.m.: Police received a report of a disturbance involving a group of juveniles, on Southampton Road.  They were unable to locate the disturbance.

6:07 p.m.: A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion on driving while intoxicated.  Police drove him to county jail.

7:28 p.m.: Officers escorted a woman into her home after she thought she heard someone inside. 

7:49 p.m.: There was a civil disturbance on Military East regarding a child custody issue.

8:06 p.m.: There was a family disturbance on Military West.  One of the family members left in order to cool off.

11:12 p.m.: There was a loud party reported on Rankin but it had broken up before officers arrived.

12:10 a.m.: Somebody was kicking over garbage cans on Hastings Drive.  Officers searched the area but didn’t find any suspicious characters.

1:03 a.m.: Police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

1:15 a.m.: The loud party on East L Street turned out to be a few friends watching a movie with the volume turned up.  They agreed to turn it down.

2:17 p.m.: There was a loud party on East Seaview.  The host agreed to bring it inside.

2:34 a.m.: There was a prowler reported in an alley near West Fifth Street.  The prowler turned out to be a guy trying to catch his dog.

3:30 a.m.: There was a group of people fighting on East Seaview. 

3:11 p.m.: A car pulling out of the McDonald’s parking lot hit another car on East Second Street and then fled the scene.

4:27 p.m.: A resident of Larkin reported the screen had been removed from his bedroom window.

5:41 p.m.: A 28_year-old Benicia man was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property.

6:40 p.m.: A man spent 45 minutes in the restroom of a Columbus Parkway business.  He left before officers arrived.

7:12 p.m.: There was a 911 call from a West L Street residence.  There didn’t appear to be anything wrong.

8:37 p.m.: Officers were asked to stand by while a person picked up belongings from an East I Street residence.

11:52 p.m.: Someone took a cab up to Southampton Road then ran away without paying the fare.

12:04 a.m.: Three cases of water were stolen from a business at Solano Square.

12:54 a.m.: There was a complaint of a loud party on East O Street, but before officers could respond they were informed the party broke up.

1:16 a.m.: Police received a 911 call from a cell phone.  It turned out to be a pocket call.

9:47 a.m.: A resident of Larkin Drive failed to turn off the house alarm in a timely fashion.

10:23 a.m.: The alarm at a Goodyear Road business went off for no apparent reason.

11:14 a.m.: There was a residential alarm malfunction on Vista.

11:19 a.m.: There were reports of a large piece of metal on I-780.  Officers let the CHP handle the situation.

3:07 p.m.: A resident of Ardmore set off the house alarm.

3:49 p.m.: Officers were unable to locate the unfamiliar vehicle seen on West Channel Road.

5:03 p.m.: There were reports of someone driving a vehicle in the open space near Rose Drive.  Officers couldn’t locate the off-roader.

5:16 p.m.: There was some pushing a yelling going on between a 14-year-old and his step-father on Carlisle.  The kid left for his father’s home.

7:16 p.m.: On Riverview there was a man throwing things around a woman’s apartment.  The man was her boyfriend.  They were arguing about his talking to other women.  He left after officers arrived.

10:45 p.m.: A 30-year-old Benicia man was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.

11:08 p.m.: Police responded to a business on Egret where the alarm had been activated.  They couldn’t find anything amiss.

Editor’s Note:  Even though I inject a bit of humor into these police logs, please remember, the men and women whose job it is to protect us rarely find it funny when they are approaching a drunk person or a building where the alarm is going off.
