Police Log: It was an Alarm Malfunction, Not a Holdup

The business was closed when the alarm went off, which was the first clue that it may have been a malfunction.

Officers were able to help people work out their differences and make sure one guy didn’t miss his bus.

12:33 a.m.: That guy walking along I-780 west was given a ride to the bus station.

8:30 a.m.: Police are investigating a hit and run that occurred on East Second Street.

8:57 a.m.: Officers refereed a dispute between neighbors on West J Street.

9:11 a.m.:  Officers had to ask a resident on Linda Vista to make fewer phone calls to his ex-wife.

9:45 a.m.: A residential alarm on Panorama appeared to be malfunctioning.

10:11 a.m.: The hit and run reported on East Fifth Street may have been a hoax call.  Officers couldn’t find a damaged car or the person who called in the report.

10:12 a.m.: Officers issued a citation for a trailer that was parked incorrectly.

1:32 p.m.: Officers began an investigation into who was tagging Military West with graffiti.

2:07 p.m.: The owner of the wallet found on West Second Street was called.

2:09 p.m.: The 911 call from a business on East Second Street was an accident.

2:48 p.m.: Police went to Cambridge Drive after receiving reports of a man hunched over in his car.  The man was gone when officers arrived.

3:01 p.m.: Officers gave a warning to the people on Southampton road who were yelling at each other.

3:26 p.m.: There was a possible drunk driver on Columbus Circle but officers couldn’t find him or her.

3:45 p.m.: Police had to explain to a group of kids that a store where they aren’t buying anything isn’t a place to hang out.

4:23 p.m.: Officers arrived at an East Industrial Way business only to find that the 911 call was a misdial.

6:26 p.m.: Officers were unable to locate the man on East Fifth Street who was fighting with someone else.  The neighbors said they heard the noise but saw nothing.

8:15 p.m.: The non-injury traffic collision on Daffodil was between an recreational vehicle and a basketball hoop.

8:46 p.m.: A citizen on Bayview reported five people trying to open his front door.  Officers were unable to find any of the five and are theorizing they had gone to the wrong address.

9:15 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a family disturbance on Warwick.  They managed to help a mom and her 14-year-old daughter to work out some issues.

11:25 p.m.: The silent alarm at Burger King went off alerting officers to a hold-up, but it was a malfunction.  Burger King was closed.

Editor’s Note:  Even though I inject a bit of humor into these police logs, please remember, the men and women whose job it is to protect us rarely find it funny when they are approaching a drunk person or a building where the alarm is going off.
