Residential burglaries may be on the rise so be sure to lock the doors and windows.

The Benicia Police Department is investigating three separate residential burglaries that have occurred in the past five days.  The crimes are not concentrated in any one part of town and at this point police are not saying they are related. Remember, lock the doors and windows when you are away, and when the neighbor’s dog starts barking, look for suspicious vehicles before you call animal control.

"Alert citizens and neighbors are key in helping the police solve or prevent crimes," Lt. Mike Daley said. "In addition, residents have to take it upon themselves to make sure they protect their homes and themselves. People should make sure they lock their cars and homes to deter burglars. Residents should always call the police to report things out of the ordinary such as vehicles or people they don't recognize in their neighborhood."
