Police Log: Thursday was a Dog Day in Benicia

Cops spent a lot of time finding re-uniting dogs with their people.

It was a dog day morning, afternoon and evening in Benicia on Thursday, October 13, 2011.  Besides all the dogs running loose police were able to arrest a possible drug dealer and referee an argument between neighbors arguing about the shrubs.

3:26 a.m.: A 41-year-old Fairfield woman was arrested on suspicion of a probation violation and petty theft.

4:50 a.m.: An alarm at a Goodyear Road business went off.  It appeared it was a malfunction.

6:29 a.m.: A suspicious person hanging out on Cambridge Drive was gone when officers arrived.

6:41 a.m.: There was a non-injury traffic collision on Industrial Way.

8:48 a.m.: The kid on Bradford who said he wasn’t going to school went to school when officers offered a ride.

9:22 a.m.: A resident on Hillcrest found a cell phone.  Police were able to locate the owner.

10:41 a.m.: Officers left a note for the owners of the barking dog on Hall Court.

10:57 a.m.: There was a non-injury traffic collision on Southampton Road.

11:12 a.m.: Officers were looking for the dog running loose on East E Street.  The dog had a leash attached to its collar but no person attached to the leash.  Officers weren’t able to locate the hound.

12:16 p.m.: Unlike the dog on East E Street, the one running loose on Church Street was located and returned to its person.

12:57 p.m.: The next dog found running loose was on Panorama Drive.  This time officers were able to detain the dog and transport it to the city’s Corp Yard where the dog’s person came to be reunited with their best friend.

1:24 p.m.: A 29-year-old Benicia woman was arrested at an East L Street residence on an outstanding warrant issued in Contra Costa County.

1:29 p.m.: Officers issued a citation for truancy to a juvenile on East L Street.

1:52 p.m.: There was a dog running loose in Alvarez Park.  Officers explained to the owner that the park is not an appropriate place to have the dog run off leash.

2:12 p.m.: Officers responded to a call of neighbors arguing over shrubbery on East N Street.  Responding officers were able to convince the neighbors to cool off.

2:52 p.m.: a 41-year-old Benicia man learned the hard way that drinking too much early in the day can result in being arrested on suspicion of drink driving.  The arrest happened on Brentwood.

3:34 p.m.: A residential alarm went off on Mayo.  There was no indication of what set it off.

3:46 p.m.: A person who lost a wallet three weeks ago on East Second Street reported the loss to police today.

5:51 p.m.: Employees accidentally set off an alarm at a business on California Street.

5:58 p.m.: A dog running loose on Rose Drive was transported to the city’s Corp Yard where it was reunited with its person.

7:46 p.m.: A business on Stone Road where the alarm was going off appeared to be secure.

7:59 p.m.: Those suspicious persons walking around on rose Drive were search and rescue team members training with dogs.

8:16 p.m.: A 68-year-old Benicia man was arrested on Riverhill on suspicion of child abuse.

9:44 p.m.: A 35-year-old Benicia woman was arrested on Military West on suspicion of possessing for sale a controlled substance.

11:11 p.m.: A man stole a 12-pack of beer from a business in Solano Square.

Editor’s Note:  Even though I inject a bit of humor into these police logs, please remember, the men and women whose job it is to protect us rarely find it funny when they are approaching a drunk person or a building where the alarm is going off.
