Police Log: Unwanted Guests, Resisting Arrest and a Barking Dog being a Pest

The events in this log are compiled from the Daily Police log.

The holidays are over and everyone is back at work but some people just didn't know when to leave so Benicia Police officers had to take an active role in getting people to leave home where they were no longer welcome.

happily, there were no DUI arrests but there was one man who was driving so poorly other drivers thought he was drink.  Officers determined he was really, really tired.

4:15 a.m.: The driver who was weaving on I780 wasn’t drunk, he was sleepy.

10:54 a.m.: The suspicious characters in sitting in a car on Hastings were having a cup of coffee.

11:33 a.m.: Some items that had been delivered to a home on Rose Drive were stolen off the porch.

1:44 p.m.: Apparently some kids on West K Street were threatening another youngster.  Officers are doing follow-up to keep it from happening again.

2:49 p.m.: The two people who were having a heated argument in the parking lot of Solano Square were had finished and were gone when police arrived.

2:57 p.m.: An alarm activation on Carlisle was deemed to be a malfunction.

4:03 p.m.: A person who came into a Southampton Road business resembled a suspect in a theft that had happened at the business.  The person was gone when police arrived.

4:47 p.m.: There was a hit and run on Woodbridge.

9:46 p.m.: The people who were setting off car alarms on Chelsea Hills were having car trouble that was causing the car alarm to activate.

12:45 a.m.: A vehicle was idling at a stop sign on Essex with its lights out.  Officers talked to the inhabitants of the car and asked them to either move along or park the car.

1:39 a.m.: Two people having an argument on Southampton Road were loud enough to bother the neighbors.  Officers were dispatched to the scene and were able to convince the arguing couple to use their indoor voices.

1:45 a.m.: Officers responding to a report of a possible drunk driver, were able to locate the suspect car but it was already parked and the driver in the house so they were unable to determine if the person was driving while intoxicated.

3:03 a.m.: Police received a report of an open garage door on Columbia.  They contacted residents of the home who happily closed the garage door.

11:15 a.m.: The teen aged nephew of residents of Pircey Drive got out of control, damaging items in the home.  The young man left before officers arrived.

12:44 p.m.: A 31-year-old woman was arrested in connection with a theft on Knight.  She was booked into county jail.

1:51 p.m.: There was a man standing on private property on West J Street.  He left prior to officers arriving on the scene.

1:57 p.m.: Officers documented the theft of a cell phone.

3:51 p.m.: A resident on Willow reported a man who was hanging around the neighborhood for many hours.  He was gone when officers arrived.

4:14 p.m.: There were a bunch of kids involved in a fight on East Second Street.  Most of the kids left when officers arrived.

4:51 p.m.: There were people riding off-road motorcycles in the open space near Addison.

5:12 p.m.: There was a barking dog on Arguello.  The animal control officer will follow-up.

6:26 p.m.: There were reports of a possible narcotics offense at the Southampton Center.  The suspects were gone before officers arrived.

8:00 p.m.: Some kids on Larkin were playing that old game where the doorbell gets rung and then everybody runs away.

9:03 p.m.: A 47-year-old Benicia man was arrested on an outstanding no bail warrant.   The arrest took place on Bayshore Road.

9:32 p.m.: There was a suspicious person pacing around on Breck Court.

11:34 p.m.: The birthday celebration on East Third Street was taken indoors after officers informed the party crew that the neighbors were getting a little cranky.

12:36 a.m.: The unwanted guest at a residence on Riverhill left after police were called but before they arrived.

1:05 a.m.: Officers responding a report of a suspicious circumstance were able to talk to the person who called in but were unable to locate any of the people acting suspiciously.

5:03 a.m.: A business alarm on Southampton Road malfunctioned.

6:56 a.m.: An unwanted guest was at a residence on Riverhill.  It was a former roommate who wanted to discuss property.

7:56 a.m.: A resident on Cambridge reported losing her wallet.

8:34 a.m.: Somebody on East Fifth Street left their door open.  Police closed it for them.

9:40 a.m.: A door to a business on First Street appeared to have been left unsecured by accident.  Officers who were investigating found employees were on hand.

11:39 a.m.: There was an alarm malfunction on Rose Drive.

2:37 pm.: There was a Christmas tree in the middle of East Second Street.  The Boy scouts were called and they came by and took the tree away.

2:56 p.m.: There were some kids running around on East Industrial.  It turns out they were the children of some landscapers working in the area.

3:00 p.m.: Oops.  That insistent knocking on the door of a home on McAllister was a Realtor who went to the wrong address.

3:03 p.m.: There was a 911 call and hang up originating on Military East.  It appears to have been a butt dial.

3:08 p.m.: There was a dog fight on West I Street. 

4:02 p.m.: Officers assisted in a child exchange after one of the parties started a verbal argument.

4:50 p.m.: A dog bit a person on Buena Vista.

8:11 p.m.: A 41-year-old Benicia man was arrested for alleged battery on a peace officer and resisting an executive officer (a more serious version of resisting arrest)

9:01 p.m.: There was a loud argument on Southampton Road.

10:44 p.m.: There was an unwanted guest at a residence on Southampton Road.

Editor’s Note:  Even though I inject a bit of humor into these police logs, please remember, the men and women whose job it is to protect us rarely find it funny when they are approaching a drunk person or a building where the alarm is going off.
