Police Log: Wednesday, September 28, 2011

The repo man made a mistake but police saved the day.

There was a failure to communicate on Lori and dogs were off-leash on Sunset. Police handled it all in stride.

2:45 a.m.: There was only one call to report the gunshots heard on West K Street. Officers were unable to find anyone firing a gun.

2:50 a.m.: Officers headed down to Sprig in the Industrial Park to talk to the guy dragging a container down the street, but when police got there the man was gone.

7:57 a.m.: A concerned citizen reported what appeared to be an attempted break-in at an East Second Street business. The business owner assured police it was damage from a while ago.

8:26 a.m.: A resident of Rose Drive failed to turn off the house alarm in a timely fashion.

9:10 a.m.: A 45-year-old Fairfield man was arrested on Union Street on suspicion of petty theft.

9:26 a.m.: A residential alarm on Cooper was activated. The residence appeared secure when police arrived.

10:21 a.m.: The dog running loose in a park on Rose Drive evaded capture when it escaped into the open space.

10:32 a.m.: Police left a note for the owner of the barking dog on Myrtle.

11:25 : The owner of the dogs being walked off-leash on Sunset was warned that he was making his dogs into lawbreakers.

11:25 a.m.: The dog that knows how to stop barking just before the police arrive was doing his thing on Carsten.

1:01 p.m.: That “failure to communicate” thing was evident on Lori Drive when the repo man didn’t get the message from the finance company that the car payments were up to date. Officers were able to facilitate the communication that kept the car in Benicia.

3:45 p.m.: Officers responding to a report of vandalism began an investigation into who may have dented a car on Church Street.

5:31 p.m.: A tenant asked for advice on how to deal with a landlord issue on La Cruz.

9:56 p.m.: Residents on Hugh reported a man yelling in his backyard. It was apparent to officers responding to the call that the man had been drinking. They convinced his family to put him to bed.

10:17 p.m.: Officers took a report on a motorcycle that was stolen from a parking lot on Cambridge.

Editor’s Note: Even though I inject a bit of humor into these police logs, please remember, the men and women whose job it is to protect us rarely find it funny when they are approaching a drunk person or a building where the alarm is going off.
