Toddler in Critical Condition After Fall Into Water

Grandmother with the child normally ties a rope around his waist when they go fishing.

A toddler was in critical condition Saturday evening after falling into a Vallejo creek during a fishing trip with his grandmother, a fire official said.

Firefighters received a report around 4 p.m. that a child had fallen into a creek that runs along Fairgrounds Drive near the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, said Battalion Chief Cliff Campbell.

When they arrived on the scene, a woman told them she had been fishing with her grandson when he had fallen into the water.

"She told us that she usually ties a rope around his waist when she fishes down there because he's only 2 years old," Campbell said. "She had not done that yet and she turned around for a minute and he fell into the water."

The grandmother was unable to reach the boy because she could not swim, but firefighters were able to quickly locate him in a drainage culvert that ran below where she had been fishing, Campbell said. The boy is thought to have been in the water around 10 to 15 minutes.

Firefighters were able to get a pulse at the scene and at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, and the boy was being prepared for a transfer to Children's Hospital in Oakland in critical condition, Campbell said.

Danny, your view of people is very sad, are you capable in demonstrating that you do have substance and restraint with how you view others in our country. Regardless of race, a child is in the hospital and a family is now suffering emotionally of what may result in a death of a child. Please show some humanity. Keeping hope that you may care.

What does it matter what race, man? And who said what race they were? I'd like to see your source. People are people, and that child deserves it no more than anyone else that may have been fishing.

I flagged Danny, yesterday and will flag him again. He gets off on this and that is his right but we also have a right not to be subjected to unwarranted hatred and unnecessary bile spewed on this site by this HEATHEN!!! I am sure, Dave Colby, the Editor is well aware of Danny Demars racist and hate filled rants; but allows it. Yes we know about freedom of speech Dave Colby but does that give a person the right to scream fire in a crowded theater or scream bomb on a plane? DOES IT!!!DOES IT!!!
