Benicia City Elections: Who's In, Who's Not

There are four official candidates for City Council and two for mayor.

Candidates for city offices have until Aug. 12 to turn in nomination papers.

Mayor
Term of incumbent Elizabeth Patterson is expiring.

Filed papers:

  • Elizabeth Patterson, elected to the council in 2003; elected mayor in 2007.
  • Alan Schwartzman, elected to the council in 2005; re-elected in 2009. If he is elected mayor, then the candidate who places third in the council election will take Schwartzman's seat on the council. If he loses the mayor's race he retains his seat on the council.

City Council
Terms of incumbents Tom Campbell and Mike Ioakimedes are expiring.

Filed papers:

  • , businesswoman.
  • is running for his third term. Elected in 2001, lost a re-election bid in 2005, elected in 2007.
  • , member of City of Benicia Planning Commission.
  • Dan Smith, elected to the City Council in 2001; defeated for re-election in 2005.

Obtained candidacy papers:

  • Sharon Petrellese, chairwoman of the Human Services Fund. 
  • Roy Salazar, a member of the Human Services Board.
  •  has said he .  If  he sticks to that plan the filing period for city council candidates will be extended to August 17.

City Treasurer

Teri Davena was appointed treasurer by the City Council to fill the unexpired term of Teddi Bidou who died last year.  She has not decided whether to run for the position.

Filed papers:

  • HR Autz, former treasurer of the Benicia Yacht Club and once a candidate for school board.
  • Bob Langston, a former planner at Mare Island and financial analyst at the Contra Costa Water District.

Obtained candidacy papers:

  • Sarah Messina, daughter of former mayor and current school board member .

The Solano County Registrar of voters office says because there is no elected incumbent treasurer, the filing deadline for that office is automatically extended to Aug. 17.

Filed papers:

  • Incumbent Lisa Wolfe is running for re-election.

Considering: There are no other declared candidates at this time.
