Benicia City Council to Discuss Distribution of Funds, Police Matters Tonight

Councilman Schwartzman requests to agendize three items.

The Benicia City Council will determine a policy to distribute services operating and endowment funds during tonight’s meeting.

According to the council’s agenda, the Human Services Board determined that there was a need for a specific policy for the distribution of funds due to recent fundraising. The board will present its proposed policy to the council.

The council will also be discussing the Benicia Police department’s proposed participation with the Solano County Mobile Field Force.

Councilman Schwartzman has request to agendize three items. The first is a motion to amend chapter 1.40 of the Benicia Municipal Code to prohibit “contacting a contributor by someone other than the candidate or campaign treasurer” during an election.

The council recommendation on the issue is to agendize it for a future meeting.

Schwartzman also wants to agendize a consideration for an amendment to the voluntary code of Fair Campaign Practices. He wants soliciting to be no more than 50 feet from any entrances to the market. The council will consider his request.

A third and final item Schwartzman wants to agendize is a review and discussion of each “body's mission, compliance with their respective mission, make up, possible changes, potential consolidations, adherence to codes, policies and council expectations to include consideration of the current budget constraints and staff resources,” the agenda said.
