Benicia City Council to Vote on Agreement for Capitol Grounds

Deals to operate the Capitol, Fisher-Hanlon House and the State Recreation Area are still in the works.

On April 3, the Benicia City Council will consider a proposed agreement between the City and the State of California to maintain the grounds and restroom of the Benicia State Capitol Historic Park.

On September 6, 2011 the council directed City staff to work with the State of California to keep Benicia’s two State Parks open and accessible to the public.  The agreement to maintain the grounds at the Capitol is the first step in achieving those goals.

A press release sent late Thursday afternoon by acting Economic Development Director Mario Giuliani stated,  “This Agreement insures that for the next two years the exterior grounds of the Capitol building will be well maintained and our residents and visitors have an accessible restroom facility, open seven days a week, located in the center of First Street.”
