Benicia Voters Starting to Get Mail For Measures They’ll See on Primary Election Ballot

A mailer supporting a statewide proposition was delivered to voters last week.

Voters in Benicia and throughout Solano County got some new political mail last week – a mailer that supports Proposition 29, the California Cancer Research Act.   Prop. 29 would add $1.00 the price of a pack of cigarettes and earmarks the money for cancer research.

The No on 29 campaign says the measure will raise billions in taxes but none of the money will go to fixing the budget deficit.   The campaign fails to mention that the only people who’ll pay the tax are cigarette smokers.

The Yes on 29 campaign mailer says an oversight committee will ensure that all the money raised will go to California research doctors and not politicians.  It doesn’t mention how much the oversight committee members will be paid.
