Ernst Announcement Letter

The following is the letter Planning commissioner J.F. "Rick" Ernst sent to friends and supporters this weekend announcing his candidacy for Benicia City Council.

Dear Family and Friends:

Well, here's my decision.  I want you all to be the first to know.  I have decided, after receiving so many complimentary emails from many of my supporters, to run for City Council.  Of course, Tom Campbell has already thrown his hat in the ring and stated that he will run once again.  He's a good guy with a fiscally responsible "eye" on things.  

So, far, my only "competition" is Christina Strawbridge, who sits on the Economic Development Committee (EDC).  There are two seats available, maybe three, if Alan Schwartzman is elected mayor.  It's hard to tell what will happen there.  Some are convinced the Mayor Patterson will lose, others, are sure she will win.  If she loses, there will be an additional Council seat made available.  Apparently, if Alan Schwartzman loses his bid for Mayor, he retains his City Council seat as his term doesn't expire for another two years.  

My campaign will focus on a fiscally responsible and sustainable budget process, getting the city employee compensation under control with few, if any, layoffs, and economic development.  Many other issues are very important and will be on my mind: sustainability, arts, human services, recreation, and so forth.  I will attempt to start a blog in the near future so you can voice your opinion about what is going on in our City, and, of course, you can always email me.
