Solano County Redistricting Meeting

Solano County will hold public meetings this week for input on its redistricting process for County Supervisor. Three 7 to 8:30 p.m. meetings will be held in various locations.

The Board of Supervisors has adjusted the timing of its next opportunity to review proposals for reshaping supervisorial district boundaries to enable all Board members to be present.

The revised date is Tuesday, June 21 at 2 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 675 Texas St. in Fairfield.  The previously scheduled date of June 22 conflicted with other commitments by Board members serving on state and regional bodies.

During the June 21 meeting the Board will consider the three existing options – referred to as Option A, Option B and Option C – and at least two additional variations being developed as a result of public and Board input.  The additional alternatives will be available on the County’s website on Friday, June 17.

Maps of Options A, B and C as well as their alternative descriptions are available for public viewing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Registrar of Voters on the second floor of the County Administration Center, 675 Texas St. in Fairfield.  The additional alternative maps will be available viewing at the Registrar of Voters office on Friday, June 17.

Since the initial Options A, B and C maps were completed in late May, the County has hosted four community meetings, and the Board held two study sessions on the draft redistricting proposals.

As a result of the decennial census, the County is examining a variety of district boundary scenarios to ensure the supervisorial districts are as nearly equal in population as possible. The County’s population according to the 2010 Census is 413,344 and each supervisorial district target is 82,669 residents.

Information regarding the supervisorial redistricting scenarios is available at www.solanocounty.com/redistricting.
