Letter to the Editor: Re-Elect Supervisor Seifert: A Supervisor on Our Side

There's a reason Supervisor Seifert won every Benicia precinct in 2008 and those reasons are still true today.

When I helped elect Linda Seifert as our County Supervisor in 2008, I knew we needed a change.  The “old boys” had a good run, but we needed a fresh approach, and someone who would listen and take action for us.  Linda won by a huge margin in 2008, 63% to 37%, including a win in every Benicia precinct, even the precinct where her opponent lived!

After Linda was elected, I applied and was hired to serve as her Aide.  During my two years working in Linda’s office, I saw up close what a tireless worker she is.  She is always prepared for the issues that come before the Board of Supervisors, and sponsored significant new initiatives during her first term.  She attends local events throughout our District, including several events most every week here in Benicia.  She has an open door at Benicia City Hall on first and third Monday evenings, and she has hired someone from Benicia to serve on her staff since her election.  She represents us well!

Her opponent in this election makes a big deal of being from Benicia – but that can work against him, as many of us Benicians have seen him in his public roles as less than responsive on issues of importance.  Indeed, if we elect him, I believe our county Board of Supervisors will once again be a special interest body of “good ol’ boys.”  Let’s keep my former boss in her seat as Chair of the Solano County Board of Supervisors.  Vote for Linda Seifert on June 5.

Roger Straw

Linda ia part of the tax and spend Liberals in the state of California. The state is 16bil in the hole and their answer is up the taxes. Talks about quality of life with no jobs. No jobs no quality of life. It is about time we have elected folks that understand a budget and follow it. Make the cuts as needed not taxes. This state will not change for a while. Linda and elected folks like her are the problem. One of these coming years the folks will figure it out. Is Rep. Miller part of the good ole boys. How about our Gov. and the two Senators. They have been around far two long. There lies your problem. I say vote them out and get some tough blood in office. Vote for Steve.

Robert, you are so predictable, you must be retired, so much time on your hands, or you just want people to know what you see as facts, both good reasons to post. I read the article and before i read comments, I then mentioned to my partner "I bet Livesay, will be the first one to respond to this" But, all that aside, I am not convinced, that the Messina will do better, he is just the the extreme of Linda, Far right. And I agree that George Miller has to go, he is no different then any other big money Republican, all about the money.

Should have made the bet. I just work quick and productive. Then I have time to have a little fun. I do see you pay attention. Any subjects you would like me to comment on?

I agree with Roger Straw on everything he says about our (L)inda (S)eifert. I have met (L)inda (S)eifert and I think that she is a warm kind and a capable Representative for the County of Solano. I am presently involved with (L)inda (S)eifert campaign because I believe in her and I think that she will continue to bring about fairness, equality and Just plain ole hard work to the position of (S)olano County Supervisor. (L)inda has a record of Standing on the side of the people and fighting for jobs and fair employment for all of (S)olano County"s citizens. In a time of economic turmoil such as we are in now, created by what I and millions of like minded Americans blame on eight years of George W. Bush and his Republican Administration. But don’t take my word for it history will be the harshest critic and judge of that era in American politics, but I digress. (L)inda (S)eifert puts her money where her mouth is!!! She is not just a person of words she is a person of action. She, unlike so many politicians in these hard times has voted to cut her own pay as well as salaries of other highly paid government officials. (L)inda has fought to improve the plight of our children; our biggest and most valuable resource. She has pushed for lowering child care expenses and help keep into place, funding for health insurance for our kids. So, regardless what falsehoods Messina or Loggins spread!!! "MY MOMMA DO DANCE AND MY DADDY DO ROCK AND ROLL" and we need (L)inda (S)eifert!

L(is for Love) S (is for Solano County) (L)inda (S)eifert Solano County and Benicia loves’ you and we know you love us too We need your continual leadership to see this County and City through Solano County Supervisor, you will be dubbed and rightfully noted Championed by the good citizens, the local dignitaries and not to mention the League of Women Voters If love was a commodity to be used at the voting booth (L)inda, You would win hands down and that’s the God honest truth And if love was an epoxy as strong as the strongest Glue then don’t only cast a vote for Solano Countys’ future But ALSO for the (S)eifert lover in you!!!

What really needs to go is the entire California State Constitution. It has become so convoluted with mandated funding plans and such that the legislature is hog tied. We need to adopt the new district boundaries so that the representatives and senators are not so snug in there elected positions. Make them get to work. I don’t know if “Throw the bums out” approach is the best way but we do need to cut out some dead wood. Proposition 13 was a good idea at the time, but I think now is the time to revisit general funding needs. We need to call a state constitutional congress and rewrite a document that will serve California far into the future.

I believe the state must live within their budget. If there is not enough money then something must give. It might be intitlements, employees or delays of projects. It will recover. In the mean time live with what you have. That new car can wait. We all face issues like this and guess what we do not look to our fellow neighbors to cover us. People are always doing things that they do not like. Guess what there comes a time when you do what is necessary to make things work. Is it pleasant? No! You see it in your everyday life. Get used to it and help make it work and start to get on with life. It will change and the past will be part of your expierence.

I do uderstand why Rev. Straw would endorse Linda his former boss. It appears he worked for her campaign and got rewarded. Thats Ok. I keep hearing the term quality of life. Just what did she do to help your quality of life without it costing tax payers money? I think nothing. This is an agenda driven candidate that has no concern for higher taxes, higher bridge tolls and any other tax that could advance her agenda. Also just what is the good ole boys system. Is it any different than the good old new electecd officials system. I think not. Just a difference in objective. Linda is just another tax and spend Gov. Brown backer. She appears to have no concern about jobs, budgets or anything that could improve our economy. Just tax and spend. It is about timer the voters caught on. Vote her out.

Sometime or other we need to understand what the different levels of government are responsible for. Cities in our county are responsible for job creation within their boundaries. The County is responsible for many safety net programs that are passed on to them from higher levels of government such as public health services, emergency services, jails, birth and death records and the like. They do not have anything to do with deficit in Sacramento or Washington. Sacramento has made the deficit in Fairfield, our county seat, worse because of taking money that they collected for the cities and the county. In the past 4 years the county budget has been cut by 25%. It has gotten to the point where there is nothing left to cut which won't hurt seniors, children and the most vulnerable in our county. We need to be helping figure out how we can provide these mandated services for nothing. What would you do if your budget was suddenly cut by that amount? How would you manage?
Robert Livesay May 21, 2012 at 05:44 PM
Remember you voted them in. The Liberals put you where you are now. Tax and spend backers of Gov. Brown. Can not get away from that.

Robert Livesay, are you serious!!!! Eight years of George (w)allace, I mean George W. Bush. What is wrong with your cognivity and your ability to assimilate between what is wrong and what is right? HUH? Truly you don't believe the bullc- -p that you are spewing on this blog. Do you deny that eight years of George W. Bush rendered this country economically weak and devisive as it stands today? Can you really sit there or stand there with a poker face and blame this bullsh--t on liberals. Obviously you can and you are doing it. But Robert Livesay, you are not pulling the wool over no ones head but you and your peers. As a matter of fact you and your peers continue to live in your priviliged, bias, world. And when you wake up, I will aptly call you Rumpel Stilskin!!! But un-like him, there will be no Gold awaiting you, only the GOLDEN RULE!!!
