Plan Bay Area Meeting in Fairfield Today will Focus on EIR

Scoping meeting will help guide the EIR process.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) are hosting a meeting today, Monday, June 25 in Fairfield where the scope and content of an EIR for Plan Bay Area will be discussed.

Plan Bay Area is a blue print for regional growth that will help the Bay Area meet state requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  The plan encourages housing and jobs growth near transit centers allowing workers the opportunity to move about the region without getting into their cars.

The meeting today is meant to help guide the EIR process and determine the environmental issues the report should address and the mitigation measures needed to minimize negative impacts.

A presentation by MTC and ABAG representatives last year on Plan Bay Area became a forum for those unhappy with the plan to share their frustrations with elected officials and MTC staff.

MTC staff hopes to have a draft of the EIR ready for public review by the end of 2012.
