Should the City Council Get Full Benefits for a Part Time Job?

As the day to adopt a budget gets closer Patch wants to know what you think about benefits for the City Council.

Benicia is facing a $1.7 million budget deficit.  Three-fourths of yearly budget expenditures are employee salaries and benefits and the balance are made on equipment and supplies.

In May, the City Council decided to close that budget gap with 75 percent or $1.3 million coming from employee salaries and benefits.

The City Council voted last night to take voluntary cuts to their own salaries and benefit package of 6.86 percent-the same cut employees are being asked to take.    The voluntary cuts to the city council salary and benefits will equal $3,086.
