The historic Tannery building near the foot of First Street is in foreclosure and scheduled to be sold at auction in September. The owners had proposed turning the building into an events center but had not pulled any construction permits.
The Benicia Herald reports the owners were trying to secure financing to fulfill requirements tied to shoreline improvements.
Many former tenants left the Tannery Building when the new owners took over and have found new settings for their businesses. Among those who left are and his wife, who moved their restaurant, , to the Southampton Shopping Center.
