WHO IS THIS BLACK PANTHER, ROAMING THE STREETS OF BENICIA?

I get emails and letters from people all over these United States and the World thanking me for my candor, my humor, my poetry and my realistic perspective on life as an African-American.  First of all; you all are welcome and if you read my Bio it will tell you a little bit about me, "The Black Panther of Poetry".  And secondly, I took the time out to write a poem for all the inquiring minds out there.  I hope it is sufficient in answering a lot of my fan base questions.  Again, thank you and Happy New Year!!!!

I AM THE BADDEST IN BENICIA:

I am the baddest in Benicia

With an attitude as peaceful

as a Dove.

I walk tall, carry a Big stick,

with a smile everybody loves.

My Pen do my fighting

When I am not in the ring.

I don’t physically fight

I don’t touch a thing!

Kids say, “Oh Badd one

I want to write like you.

You write about LIFE, LOVE

and sometimes SERIOUS things too.

I say I’m like a  Black Panther, aware and curious.

And like a cat I use my head.

Never  moving  too fast or too furious.

I feel no shame when I write the truth.

About racism, sexism, and sometimes

sizism too!!!

I float like a mosquitoe

and when I write I sting

like a flea.

There is no other Badder in Benicia.

Truly you must agree!

I’m a Bad Mother(shut yo mouth).

I’m just talkin bout me!!!

I’ve read Maya, Baldwin, Mailer and Dickinson too

And Nikki Giovanni, just to name a few.

But please don’t sell me short

Because I say I write.

It’s  the size of the fight in the dog

and not the dog in the fight!!

And when I’m finished with you

I’m not gunna brag.

You see this fight was already

Really, in the BAG.

But I will offer you a hand up

and the news that is the latest.

It will read extra, extra read all about him.

He REALLY, REALLY is

THE BADDEST and

Dare say I,

THE GREATEST!!!

(I’M A BADD MAN)!!!

With all that, it must be hard to be so humble...
Kenny January 08, 2014 at 10:51 AM
And with all this self promotion, what are you selling? Surely there is more to this besides comparing yourself to Ali.
Frances Jackson January 08, 2014 at 11:14 AM
I think you have a lot to say and I will be sure to read it. As a poet, I do hope you meant Dickinson, not Dickerson. I've not met Ms. Dickerson, but I have met Emily. Minor editing could help overall presentation. Ta da - Good luck, BP.

Keep going Black Panther. You gave me the courage to "stick to my principles" Elly Harkins
Colin Larkin January 08, 2014 at 01:28 PM
Self promoter, Walter Mitty yes. Ali? Ahh no. Maybe Joe Ali. Nice try Bobby.

The Black Panther of Poetry strikes again! I always love what you write, so right on brother! Peggy Sandow

Mr. Panther. If your views weren't so liberal and Progressive, one could really love you. But ignorance must be bliss. So I'll just respect you as a human being and hope that knowledge will come your way some time to bring you around to a more life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, small government, fiscal responsibility and strict constructionist Constitutional conviction. Best wishes in 2014. May to bird of paradise be with you always.

Peggy Sandow: Thank you, and where have you been? I used to love reading your funny blogs./Gary W. Smith: when you say, "One would really love you", is it safe to think that, that one is YOU!!! Ahhhh, Gary, you just made a Black guy blush, which is a VERY PROGRESSIVE thing to do!!!....PEACE OUT!!!!
Mike January 09, 2014 at 09:16 PM
Black Panther, what Mr. Smith doesn't realize is your views do advocate more life, liberty and happiness. It might be difficult for him to realize that a progressive wishes that for "us". Conservatives focus on the "me".
Gary W Smith January 10, 2014 at 12:32 AM
Us would be the collective concept which generally fails where ever it is implanted. And implanted is the correct term. Viewing the collective us in its raw form, the USSR failed. And the collective us in China is using the 'me' to achieve success. So, 'me' is a far better incentive to achievement that 'us' will ever know. History does not lie and those that fail to learn from it are only doomed to repeat it.
Elly Harkins January 10, 2014 at 01:46 PM
I disagree with Gary. When "me" joins with others of like mind...it becomes "us": a civil rights leader whose birthday we celebrate this month.
"The Black Panther of Poetry" January 10, 2014 at 04:01 PM
Right on Elly and Happy Birthday M.L.K. Jr!!!
Gary W Smith January 10, 2014 at 08:22 PM
The original topic was "Progressives" - When a 'god fearing' man of Martin Luther Kings stature is able to take his "me" and bring others to an understanding of what "we" can do, epitomized in the statement "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character", the "us" that is currently pushing "progressivism" is a non-performer and lacks any modicum of understanding of what is means to have the freedoms MLK is describing - life, liberty and happiness - unless it is directed, orchestrated and managed by that "Progressive us" and their basis is "collectivist terminology".
Harry Spider January 14, 2014 at 02:16 AM
Gary - give us break, man. Your quivering paranoia of the evil progressives coming to take away your liberty makes you look kinda nuts... we get it: WE MUST FEAR THE COMMIES.... Enough. Please. Shut. Up.
Harry Spider January 14, 2014 at 02:20 AM
Gary - instead of rant-bombing this thread, go start your own. Really, submit an article, and tell us all what we SHOULD BE VERY AFRAID OF... and then you can debate whoever shows up over there. K?
Gary W Smith January 14, 2014 at 12:22 PM
Dear Harry. You don't get it. By the time you wake up, you won't have the freedom to respond in this media. There won't be any media but State Media, or do you not learn from history-just repeat it?
"The Black Panther of Poetry" January 14, 2014 at 03:01 PM
I love the FIRST AMENDMENTto the United States Constitution. There are a few other Amendments to the U.S Constitution that I like(15th,13th 8th,4th) to name a few; but the First Amendment is my Damn Favorite. And trust me, I use it a lot, lot. I use it verbally and vocally and legibly. I use it in court, with police, with my wife, with my kids. I use it in sports while watching on tv. I use it in stores while spending my money. I basically use it any and every where I feel the need to use it. And that's why I love it the most of all the Amendments to the Constitution. After all, I think I earned it!!!
Gary W Smith January 14, 2014 at 10:37 PM
Dear Mr. Panther. Darn right you own the First Amendment to the Constitution and I will give my life to ensure that it remains in your custody. It is essential for all of us to be able to express ourselves, regardless of whether we agree or not. It is the opening to dialogue, information, knowledge and the assurance that we humans have more in common than not. Great post.
