Baseball Playoff Begins Today for Panthers, Girls Soccer on Tuesday and Softball Begins Thursday

A win in today's opening round of the Sac-Joaquin baseball playoff will mean a trip to Sacramento on Thursday.

The varsity baseball team plays a first round game against Lincoln today at Benicia High.  The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.  The winner of today's game will play El Camino on Thursday at Sacramento City College.

The Benicia High varsity baseball team made it into the post season with a second place finish in league play.  The Panthers lost their league title to Rodriguez High, the team they beat for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III title last year.

Today's opening game pits the Panthers against the Lincoln Zebras.  The Zebras, who have an overall losing record for the year, were 9-6 in the Pioneer Valley League.

The Vallejo Times-Herald reports that, on paper, the matchup looks good for the Panthers who have the home field advantage.

Tomorrow the Panther girls soccer team plays host to El Camino in a second round match of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III girs soccer championship. The Lady Panthers have a stifling defense that has allows an average of less than one goal per game while the offense scores an average of 3.5 goals per game.

Friday, May 18, the Panther girls softball opens its 2012 post-season play against a yet to be determined opponent.  The softball games will be played at teh Sacramento Softball Center.
