Benicia High Baseball Loses to Rodriguez

The teams are now tied for the top spot in the SCAC and play again this afternoon at Benicia High.Benicia Panther Baseball

The Benicia Panthers varsity baseball team lost Wednesday to Rodriguez High Mustangs and are now in a dead heat for first place in the SCAC with Rodriguez.  The 5-3 loss came on a windy afternoon in Fairfield.

The Mustangs had their top pitcher, senior Jesse Scholtens on the hill.  Scholtens threw 100 pitches in the complete game victory, his first against Benicia.

Sophomore Steven Daini started the game for the Panthers and got the loss.  Coach Jim Bowles had no criticism of Diani’s performance on Wednesday. “He throws strikes and he battles,” said Bowles after the game.  “He’s like a pro pitcher as a sophomore.”

Daini gave up four runs in the fourth inning but came back out in the fifth and retired the side in order before being lifted in the sixth.

The teams meet for the final time in the regular season today at Benicia.  First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the winner of the game will be in sole possession of first place in the SCAC.
