Benicia High Baseball Team Wins Its First Playoff Game

Panther fastballers look sharp in opening game of playoffs.

The Benicia High School baseball team looked sharp in a 7-1 victory over the Bear River Bruins Friday night, May 20 at Dan McAuliffe Ballpark in Sacramento.  pitched six innings, allowing just one earned run and notching nine strike-outs.

The first inning was scoreless but in the second frame the Panther bats came alive.  after and drew one out back to back walks sliced a two-run double into the left-center gap scoring both runners.

Hall then scored on a single by  Payne who then stole 2nd moved to third on ground-out.  walked then stole 2nd.  The next batter, third baseman hit two-out single to score Payne and Reyes.

In the fifth inning Andrew McNeece hit one-out single and later stole 2nd.  McNeece scored when Mauch hit a double to the gap in left center.   Mauch then scored  when Hall hit a clutch two-out single.

Bear River managed to get score one run in the sixth but it was too little too late against Jeneste who had a great night on the mound.

The Panthers play again today at noon at Dan McAuliffe Ballpark against the winner of the Rio Americano - Clofax game.  The bus will leave the high school at 9:45 a.m.
