Benicia Middle School Viking Bands – Jazz, Drum Line, Marching, Symphonic and Color Guard- Bring Home the Hardware

Middle school band members establish tradition they hope to carry over to high school.

The middle school band program was in full "We're ready to be Panthers" mode last Saturday when they grabbed the grand sweepstakes prize at the Vallejo Band Review.

Besides the grad prize the band took first place in parade, jazz, and auxiliary, second place for percussion and sweepstakes trophies for showmanship and concert.

"I told the band we'd have fun and we had fun," said Benicia Middle School band director Glen Walp.

Walp added some new moves for the event including marching backward while they continued to both play and stay in step with each other.

Last month the Viking band program was awarded a Unanimous Superior rating by the California Music Educators Association at a band festival  hosted by Benicia.

The next competition for the Viking band is the Encinal Extravaganza of Bands in Alameda where they hope to add to the hardware collection at Benicia Middle School.
