Benicia Panther Softball Continues Playoff March

The Panthers play Monday in the winners bracket final.

The Panther softball team will play in the Sac-Joaquin Division III winner’s bracket final today against the Bear River Bruins at 6 p.m. at the Sacramento Softball Complex.  The winner of that game plays the winner of Tuesday’s losers bracket final for the D-III title.

The Panthers won their Friday game against Woodland 4-1.  The game was officially recorded as a forfeit when the Woodland coach, Cameron Goodwin, was ejected while arguing a call.  Since Woodland doesn’t have an assistant coach, league rules say the game had to be forfeited.

On Saturday the Panthers kept up their winning ways defeating Whitney 1-0 on a walk-off single by Kendall Core that scored Kira Knight in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Vallejo Times-Herald reports that the teams were well matched and both had scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Whitney plays Vanden in a loser’s bracket game, also scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight.  The winner of that game will play the loser of the Benicia vs. Bear River game on Tuesday with the winner of that game going to the tile game on Wednesday.

The Sac-Joaquin Section Division III final will be played Wednesday at 5 p.m. with a second game scheduled for 7 p.m. should it be necessary. The last two rounds of the tournament are double elimination.
