Benicia Unified Looking for Help choosing Languages to Teach

Superintendant hopes students and parents and taxpayers will use give input into world language offerings.

wants the community to help decide what languages should be taught at the middle school and the high school.

“We have Spanish and French,” said Superintendant Janice Adams.  Our enrollment in French has been decreasing over the years.”

Adams is hoping the community will weigh in and has set up a series of polls on SurveyMonkey to make giving input easy.  There is a survey for middle school students, a survey for high school students and a survey for parents.

“We are looking at what options parents and students want in terms of world languages,” said Adams.

The surveys will gather information and opinions from students at and as well as all parents in the district.  This information will be used to help the World Language Department develop future plans.

“It could be Chinese or Arabic or some other European language,” said Adams.

The surveys will be available from November 10 -30. 

Adams stressed that the district values the opinions of students and parents in choosing what languages to teach.
