Get the Rush

All are invited to Get the Rush on Saturday, February 18th at Rush Ranch, just outsideSuisun City. Get the Rush is a fun and free blacksmith demonstration and, weather permitting, a walk andNative American display. It takes place on the third Saturday of every month. This Get the Rush is extra specialbecause the blacksmiths will put a metal rim on a wooden wagon wheel the old fashioned way!

9:00am to 10:30am: Take a guided tour of the tidal marsh and upland grasses of Rush Ranch. Learn why RushRanch is locally loved and nationally famous! Meet your guide in the native plant garden beside the NatureCenter. Rain cancels.

10am to 1pm: Rain or shine, travel back in time as you enter the historic Rush Ranch Blacksmith Shop. Learnabout traditional blacksmithing tools and equipment, and see the forge in the center of the ranch. Take partin an interactive demonstration with a smithy, and you may even get the opportunity to make your own ironnail or other keepsake. At 11am, be sure to join blacksmith Virgil Sellers and team as they refurbish a 150-yearold wagon wheel. They’ll heat a metal rim in a wooden fire to expand it and then fit it on the wooden wagonwheel the same way folks would have done it in the 1800s.
