Good Weather Expected for Weekend Parade Honoring Returning Soldiers, Run for Education

Wet weather forecast to leave the area by tonight.

The weather for the weekend is forecast to be perfect for outdoor activities like running in the Benicia Education Foundation “” on Sunday morning or coming downtown to welcome home the troops of the California Army National Guard 749th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion at a parade scheduled for Saturday morning.

Weather.com is forecasting Sunday morning temperatures in the 50s when runners from will take off from the Marina Green in support of libraries and technology programs at Benicia schools.  There will be a few clouds in the sky and temperatures are expected to rise into the high 60s by the afternoon.

Saturday morning is expected to be clear and slightly cooler when Benicia will honor the men and women of the California Army National Guard 749th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion home based in Benicia.

A parade honoring the return of our hometown soldiers after a safe and successful year-long tour serving in support of operation New Dawn in Iraq.  

The parade nearly didn’t happen because of concerns about insurance.   That’s when local businessman Rob Storlee, owner of R.A. Storlee Insurance and Rookies Sports Bar stepped in.  After reading in the Benicia Herald about the problems parade organizers were encountering with getting insurance for the parade, Storlee stepped in, secured the insurance and paid the premium so the city could honor the returning soldiers.

The parade is this Saturday at 10:00 am from D street to the Veterans Building at the top of First Street.
