How Did You Ask Out Your Prom Date?

Asking a girl to the prom is not as simple as it used to be.

Tonight is prom, a pretty big deal for students. Back in , one only needed to say "Will you go to prom with me?"As the prom becomes more and more elaborate, teenage boys are finding creative ways to pop the question.

George Huo and Natalie Sugiyama are both juniors at Benicia High and have been dating for a few months. It was probably no surprise that he was going ask his girl to prom, so he found a way to surprise her. He invited Sagiyama to his house. As the two were casually talking in his room, he said, “You’re the only star in my sky”, which confused Sagiyama. Suddenly the lights went out and Huo pointed to the ceiling where glow in the dark stars the spelled out Prom?

“It was really cute,” recalls Sugiyama. “It was really sweet. I knew he was really nervous because I told him about a week before that he had to ask me in a cute way. I wasn’t really expecting it at all.”

Huo chuckled and said, “I was nervous, but at the same time I was really excited. I knew I was asking someone really important to me. I was just hoping that she liked the way I asked more than anything.”

Ciaran Byrne went all out when asking his friend Erin Gaines to prom. He started by dressing up in a furry Sasquatch costume. Planning ahead, he recruited a friend to announce that he saw a Sasquatch looking for a prom date in Gaines’ class.

At the right moment, Byrne burst into the classroom, ran to Gaines and knelt down on one knee. He screamed gibberish in a Sasquatch-like language.  He then removed his furry head and told her, “What I was trying to say was, will you go to prom with me?” as he handed her 18 roses.

“I was super nervous and excited,” says Byrne.  “I can’t wait to get dressed up for Prom, it’s my favorite part!”

Side note: BHS has for prom, which does not specifically exclude Sasquatch outfits.
