Patch Poll: No School Day After Halloween?

Benicia schools are closed the day after Halloween. Should the tradition continue?

Many years ago teachers and administrators at Benicia schools noticed that the day after Halloween, a lot of kids were absent from school. Those who did show up were often a bit unruly and often went home sick.

It was decided to make the day after Halloween a non-instructional day so the district wouldn't risk the loss of state attendance funding.

Do you agree with this policy?

While most people would consider me a wisenheimer I gotta say that a poll with essentially two yes choices is most definitely NOT scientific! While I feel this policy makes good use of classroom instruction time, I do wonder if the "tired and wired" is true for all grade levels or should/could this holiday be excluded at the high school level.

I believe this is a very good policy, especially when Halloween falls on a Mon-Thur. I have had a lot of other parents and children of all ages from other cities and school districts very jealous of our day off after Halloween. We should continue this tradition.
