Wanted: Your Questions for School Board Candidates

The election is fast approaching and Patch wants the voters to help us create a questionnaire for the candidates for Benicia school board.

On Nov. 8, voters who don't vote absentee will go to the polls to select two Benicia Unified School District board members. Voters may choose to return incumbents Andre Stewart and Bonnie Weidel or vote for new blood and elect one or both challengers, Gary Wing and Matt Donahue.

Regardless of who wins in November, the Benicia school board will likely have to deal with more budget cuts from Sacramento.  Already the budget passed in June by the school board looks to be in jeopardy because of lower-than-anticipated tax revenues at the state level.

We at Benicia Patch want to know what you, the voters, think are the important questions candidates for school board should be answering.

Should Benicia students be wearing uniforms? Is vocational education getting shortchanged? Should parents and teachers have a greater say in what electives are offered at the high school?

These are some of the questions readers have already asked.

What are your questions for the school board candidates?

Benicia Patch will collect questions from readers through Wednesday, Aug. 31.  We will then forward the questions to the candidates and will post their answers beginning Monday, Sept. 12.
