Whiz Kid: Elise Kephart

Fourth-grade President demonstrates leadership and helps raise money for tsunami and earthquake victims in Japan.

This week's Benicia Whiz Kid: Elise Kephart

Grade: 4th grade

School: Mary Farmar Elementary

Accomplishment: Elise is the president of the Leadership Council. To get on the council, Elise had to write a letter about why she should be appointed. Once on the council, student members held elections for officers. Again Elise wrote a letter and read it aloud to members who voted her in as president. Elise learned how to run the meetings and recently led the group in .

Elise has been singing melody with for four years. After just one year in preparatory choir, she advanced to concert choir. The group performs eight to nine concerts each fall and four to five shows in the spring, plus private performances.

Key to Elise's Awesomeness:  Her parents say she is always happy and likes to try new things. Elise is comfortable in front of a crowd and exhibits natural leadership. Her teacher praises her for demonstrating responsibility. Elise hopes to own a coffee and ice cream shop when she grows up so and  should keep on eye on her.
