Featherer Pet of Benicia assists Solano County Mosquito Abatement

Mosquito eating fish help decrease mosquitos and the spread of West Nile Virus

Solano County recently sent out another message urging residents to avoid mosquitoes and the possible .  One way to avoid mosquitoes is to curb their breeding by introducing mosquito eating fish to backyard ponds.  

Mosquito eating fish are available for free at . Featherer Pet receives the fish free of charge from Solano County Mosquito Abatement.

"We usually have them from May to October" said Karen Hubbard, owner of Featherer Pet. Hubbard said that most people take about a dozen of the fish at a time.  "They are prolific breeders," she said of the fish. Once placed into a backyard pond, the fish will live off of the mosquitoes and generally don't require additional feeding or care.

Residents can pick up mosquito eating fish during regular business hours at Featherer Pet on Fifth street in Benicia.
