Water Safety Day at James Lemos Swim Center

Residents are invited to free event at downtown swim center.

The City of Benicia's Water Safety Day will be held at the James Lemos Swim Center on Saturday, June 16 during recreational swim from 1- 4:45pm.  Information on water safety and drowning prevention will be the focus of the event. 

Several organizations will be present including The City of Benicia, Benicia Fire Department, Debbie's Swim School, Josh the Otter, American Red Cross, US Coast Guard, Benicia Stingrays swim team, Drowning Prevention Foundation and It's All About Scuba.

There will be activities for kids, demonstrations and give always. One demonstration will feature a United States Coast Guard helicopter rescue swimmer.

“We are very excited about this new event,” said Jill Wynn of the Benicia Parks and Community Services Department.  “Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death in toddlers under the age of 4.  Educating the public is crucial in changing that statistic.”  

The entire community is invited to attend.  The event is FREE.  If people want to swim they will need to pay the regular rate.
