"Fool me once, shame on you." "Fool me twice, shame on me". Last time it wasRead More "new math". And when it was all over an entire generation couldn't add or subtract. Now it's "new history", "new english", "new science"...

This Common Core sounds more like the Common Cold in that it is inevitable, everyone gets it, and itRead More arouses suspicion of a more severe problem that requires a more potent medicine!!!

I am 50 years old now but when I was a kid growing up in Alabama, we didn't have "CyberRead More Bullying" we had REAL Bullies. I remember this tiny white kid name Jimmy Peterson who was just literally terrorized by this big black kid name Alvin Knight. I would come to his rescue through out his school term. Something inside me deplored how Alvin Knight treated little Jimmy. I subsequently grew up to hate bullies and I have always fought them physically in life and lately verbally or literally on PATCH!!!

Why does the panther have to include the race of the bully and the race of the kid he stuck up for?Read More A bully is a bully and a victim is a victim.
Danny DeMars August 30, 2013 at 04:19 pm
If you exclude all the Vallejo kids whose Aunties live in Benicia so they go to OUR schools, I betRead More the numbers would be MUCH higher.
JS Commons August 30, 2013 at 09:33 pm
@Danny DeMars - Reviewing the demographics of API results, there's one group that dominates APIRead More scores in Benicia schools, if you removed those kids bec they're living with their aunties, Benicia score will be much lower.

I don't know Mr. Morgan, but I think Ellen Blaufarb would have been an excellent choice.
Jeremy Cantor May 2, 2013 at 04:57 pm
I know nothing about Mr. Morgan except for what I see in the preceding article. What are hisRead More qualifications to be one of the decision-makers in the area of public education?
Gary W Smith April 24, 2013 at 12:35 pm
It would be nice if this meant something; however, its fluff. NEA report has Calif #13 on list ofRead More graduate improvement, #35th in student investment; below average in graduation rates for high schools, and the largest percentage of students not completing the 9th grade. Some balanced statistics would be nice: you know that figures lie and liars figure (basic statistics course humor). So give us something that real given the dollars thrown at CA education with such a poor outcome.

Once again we see our School Board at it's best. Since when is it legal for an elected position toRead More be filled by board members? Who are they to say who will best fill our needs for representation? First they vote to extend their terms and now this? I hope the voters of this city someday will take a look at how we the people are being manipulated by the politicians. We are losing students right and left and maybe the reason for that is sitting on the throne. Maybe we can spend more than the 150k for the two policemen at two schools? Are you kidding me? $75,000 a year for a part time job is ok with you ? I am not sure what scares me more. The way money is wasted by the board members or the fact that you people don't care that it is going on.

I agree 100%. Wake up Benicia!
King of France April 23, 2013 at 02:34 pm
Don't worry Rob, everything will be handled perfectly during the "closed door meeting".Read More It's not like they can simply vote for anything they want to benefit themselves! I mean except for the free benefits package last year for a part time appointment.

All other government employees have been taking pay cuts lately. Employee costs make up 90% of theRead More entire budget for Benicia schools. For the last five years I've been hearing how they cannot afford anything and they need to increase taxes so our students don't suffer. If they can afford to raise employee salaries then I don't want to hear them crying anymore about no money for anything. The city can't afford raises for city employees. How can the school district afford raises for school employees?
Lisa Reynolds April 16, 2013 at 11:19 pm
Of course they deserve a 5% raise. Read the story if you don't agree and spend a few days in aRead More classroom.
Bob Jones April 17, 2013 at 04:16 pm
I did read the article Lisa. Please read my former statement. The question is not about whetherRead More the teachers deserve a raise. The question is whether or not the school district can afford a raise for the employees. Employee salaries are 90% of the budget. They can't afford to give anyone a raise without severely reducing what is provided to the students. The students will suffer. One of these days when the economy is better there will be money for raises, but not now. Chicago gave all their teachers raises and now they're shutting down 130 schools.
