Four Women Wanted to Save Some Animals

Solano County Friends of Animals has weathered a lot of storms in 25 years but their latest troubles are by far the worst they've had.

In 1986 Janette Lattin, Sue Watson and Marilyn Mills and Evy Johnson saw a need for an animal rescue group so they created Solano County Friends of Animals. They started out using their own money.  Then they started raising funds by having garage sales at Janette’s home in Vallejo.

Through the years this group has spayed, neutered and found homes for thousands of dogs and cats.

Janette died last year but Sue and Evy are still members after 25 years.

Solano County Friend’s of Animals has had its ups and downs. Right now they are in a down cycle with lots a kittens needing to be fixed and adopted and money getting tight.

The former treasurer for the group was recently arrested and charged with grand theft for embezzling an unknown amount of money from Friends of Animals.

Because of the alleged crime Friends of Animals isn’t able to spay and neuter all the animals it is being asked to rescue.

The group has now instituted new controls to stop  money being stolen in the future but the damage is done and now they are asking for support from the community.  Newly elected group president Jill Coe continues to improve the controls and keep donations secure.

You can help Solano Friends of Animals by bringing a donation for the group to Pet Food Express this weekend where they will hold their weekly adoption clinics.  You can also mail your donations to;
