Great Escape: Point Isabel Park

The absolute best park with a million dollar view just 30 minutes away.

The views in Benicia are lovely but if you need a change of scenery, there is a secret spot in Richmond. Yes, Richmond. When you visit the park, you'd think you were in Sausalito or Tiburon. It's hard to believe, but it's true.

Point Isabel Regional Shoreline is a darling spot with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, Treasure Island, San Pablo Bay, the Golden Gate bridge, the San Francisco skyline and the Bay Bridge.

It's just a 30-minute drive from Benicia or Martinez. The park is on a point, surrounded by rocky shoreline, natural marsh lagoons and open fields. Breathtaking views can be seen from all sides of the park.

The best part is, if you are a dog lover, the 23-acre park is dog friendly with huge areas that are designated off-leash. Dog people from all over the Bay Area converge at this amazing spot.

Areas that are protected as wildlife habitats are clearly marked. For water play, access is not easy but there are some designated areas. They're easy to spot, just look for the frolicking dogs.

Inside the park, The Sit & Stay Cafe serves espresso, sandwiches, snacks, pastries and ice cream. Dog owners will appreciate Mudpuppy's Tub & Scrub dog wash and shop.

Whether you are canine or human, you will love this park.
