There Is A Cat Party Going On At Night

Remove a feral cat and another will take its place. Get it fixed and they will gradually die out. TNR (Trap Neuter Return)

Trap Neuter Return (TNR) is a comprehensive plan in which entire feral colonies are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated and neutered by veterinarians.  Kittens and cats that are tame enough to be adopted are placed in good homes. Adult cats are returned to familiar habitat to live out their lives under the watchful care of a sympathetic neighborhood.

TNR works. Feral cat populations are gradually reduced. Nuisance behaviors associated with breeding, such as the yowling of females or the spraying by toms are eliminated. Disease and malnutrition are greatly reduced. The cats live healthy, safe and peaceful lives in their territories.

Benefits of TNR

Feral cat populations are stabilized at management levels, preventing overpopulation.

Annoying mating behaviors such as fighting, howling and spraying are eliminated. This results in decreased calls to law enforcement agencies about nuisance cats-freeing law officers for more important duties.

Feral cats benefit their communities by keeping rodent populations in check.

TNR is more cost effective than repeated attempts at eradication. By decreasing the number of animals euthanized at local shelters, society saves money. There is a substantial savings to the taxpayer. It costs an average of $105 to trap, house, kill and dispose of an animal, compared with about $60 for sterilization.

TNR also frees valuable shelter space. This method is being used with success  all over the world.
