“Undomesticated,” provides a multi-faceted view of creatures who live on their own terms, without depending on masters for sustenance or purpose. Each of the painters has chosen creatures she finds most beautiful, mysterious or fascinating. Whether they are feathered creatures taking off into the air, scaly ones wiggling through a watery world or furry ones connected firmly to the earth, they all represent a kind of freedom we sometimes envy and always view with wonderment.

The Bay Area Studio Artists, originally united by instructor Marcy Wheeler, paint together regularly in the East Bay. Each artist has developed a unique vision and painting style, ranging from subtle realism to in-your-face expressionism. The group encourages a respect for all aesthetic choices, making for a varied and interesting palette of paintings.

Although they work mostly in their studios, The Bay Area Studio Artists travel far and wide for their inspirations. In this exhibit you'll see paintings originally inspired by travels of the artists or their friends and family as far away as Australia or Africa and as close as the waters of the Pacific flyway.
