Storm Brings Hail, Strong Winds to Bay Area

A chilly rain system quickly swept through the Bay Area Tuesday, according to a National Weather Service forecaster.

"It's raining and it's cold," forecaster Diana Henderson said.

The rain moved south this afternoon into Monterey County after it passed over the North Bay, East Bay and San Francisco and Peninsula areas.

There were reports of small hail in the North Bay earlier today, along with a light dusting of snow at the top of Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County.

Temperatures throughout the region this afternoon ranged from the mid-30s to high 40s.

For the rest of the week, Henderson said to expect scattered showers and similar cold temperatures.

Another small rainstorm may arrive Friday, but is forecast to clear up by Saturday afternoon leaving in its wake partly cloudy weather, she said.

Today's showers also brought some strong winds, which prompted the California Highway Patrol this afternoon to issue advisories on the San Mateo-Hayward and Benicia-Martinez bridges.

Wind gusts in parts of the Bay Area reached up to 30 mph today.
