Community Update

Last but never the least is our schools and the way our lunches are handled. I have worked at three elementary schools and i am appalled at what happens on a daily basis. Did you know that the uneaten /served food gets thrown away? Did you know that at the end of the week all fruit and vegetables are thrown away? When i asked why i was told that the county health department set up the ways and means this way. Can you tell me why we aren't allowing the food to go to the needy or homeless? Also, i see all these kids that are getting free lunchs courtesy of the district on the free lunch program.Did you know that the majority of these kids never eat their lunch and just throw it away? They would rather borrow,or try to,junk food from their friends. It is amazing how many bought and home lunches never get touched and get dumped into the trash. Somehow, some way, we need to insure our kids are having to eat vs being allowed to go play at lunch recess. The so called eat healthy is a joke. They force the kids to take fruit and veggies that get dumped 90% of the time. Is it me or is our system badly broken?
I am getting ready to post a comment in the area newspapers[sf chronicle and contra costa times] to see if they can guide me in dealing with this issue. We are a wasteful society[yes, even CA] and we need to stop it before there is nothing left to waste.
