Benicia Police Releasing Little Info on Mitchell Arrest

Age of victim, circumstances around the arrest still unknown.

 have revealed the alleged victim in the statutory rape case involving James Mitchell is between the ages of 14 and 18 years old.

Lt. Mike Daley said police received information on the crime two weeks prior to Mitchell's arrest. He said he couldn't reveal whether the parent or the alleged victim was the one to come forward to law enforcement. 

Attempts Tuesday to contact the 18-year-old Mitchell, a  student and former basketball player who  at the school, were unsuccessful.

Daley didn't release any other information about the case. 

"We released what the law allows," he said. "We need to do what we can in a case like this to protect the identity of the victim."

Daley said statutes in the California Penal Code don't allow for much information to be released.
