City Treasurer Robert P. “Bob” Langston Dead at Age 66

Bay Area native called Benicia home most of his life.

Robert P. “Bob” Langston, 66, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Oakland and was a lifelong resident of Benicia.

Bob earned his Bachelors Degree from St. Mary’s College and he worked as Chief Planner & Budget Analyst for more than 30 years beginning at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and later for the Contra Costa County Water District. Bob was elected Benicia City Treasurer last November and served in that capacity until his death.

Besides being Benicia's fiscal watchdog, Langston was a member of St. Dominic’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Y.M.I., B.D.E.S. Society, Native Sons of the Golden West and Portuguese Fraternal Society of America. Langston was also a huge fan of the San Francisco Giants.

The City of Benicia will fly flags at half-mast this week to honor Langston.  "We recognize Bob’s dedication to his job, his finance expertise and his desire to be the "eyes and ears" for the public." said Mayor Elizabeth Patterson on behalf of the City. "Our condolences are sent to the Langston family."

Recitation of the Rosary & Mass of Christian Burial will be held starting at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Dominic’s Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Dominic’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Passalacqua Funeral Chapel. Family prefers donations to St. Dominic’s School.  Please visit the online tribute at www.passalacquafuneralchapel.com
