Benicia Boys and Girls Have First Playoff Matchups Next Week

The teams are both the No. 14 seeds in their respective Division II playoffs.

The Benicia High School boys and girls basketball teams will be following each other into the playoffs next week.

The boys and girls teams are both the No. 14 seed in their respective Division II playoffs.

The boys have their first game at 7 p.m. Monday at home against No. 19 Hiram Johnson High School, while the girls face No. 3 Gregori at 7 p.m. Tuesday at that school, 3701 Pirrone Road in Modesto.

The boys game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but was moved to next week because of a conflict with the school's Winter Ball Dance.

The last time the Benicia Panther boys made the playoffs was the 2008-09 season, where the team was eliminated in the first round by Vacaville's Will C Wood.

This season, the boys are 17-10 overall and 7-3 in league play, according to MaxPreps.

The girls' last playoff appearance was in 2010-11, where the team upset a higher-seeded squad in the first round but was eliminated in the second round by Bella Vista High School.

This year, the girls are 13-10 overall and 6-4 in league play, according to MaxPreps.
