Benicia Youth Soccer Team Wins NorCal Premier State Cup in Woodland

The Benicia Arsenal FC 99 Boys team won the NorCal Premier State Cup Division 3 championship on Saturday.

A youth soccer club from Benicia won a state cup in a match against a team from Napa over the weekend in Woodland.

The Benicia Arsenal FC 99 Boys earned the NorCal Premier State Cup Division 3 championship with a 2-0 victory over the Napa Soccer Club Gladiators, the team reported on its website.

As the team says, it scored its first goal of the match in the second half, as "the hero of the hour was found as substitute Nathan Morimoto pounced on a cross from [Jacob] Watson to calmly fire the ball into the corner of the net and send Benicia 1-0 up."

The second goal came from Watson, who "went on one of his trademark powerful runs towards the opposition penalty area to round the last defender and drive the ball low and hard past the Gladiators goalkeeper," the team said.

The victory was the first NorCal State Cup title ever for a Benicia boys team, and the second for the club.
