Earthquake Shakes Benicia, Did You Feel It?

Update 10:10 a.m.

There are no reports of damage as a result of this morning's earthquake.  The USGS has changed the size to a 3.5 magnitude.  Valero reports that there is no effect on operations at the refinery.  Benicia Police Department spokesman Lt. Mike Daley says there have been no calls to the emergency dispatch center reporting damages.

Update 9:30 a.m.

Another magitude 3.7 earthquake struck this morning in Vallejo.  According to the United States Geological Survey the quake's epicenter was nearly the same spot as last night's 3.5 magnitude quake.

So far there are no reports of damage as a result of this latest earthquake.

Update Feb. 16, 5 a.m.

The United States Geographical Survey web site has changed the magnitude of last night's earthquake to 3.5. The epicenter information remains unchanged.

Update 7:30 p.m.

Valero spokesperson Sue Fisher-Jones confirmed via email that operations at the Valero Benicia Refinery were unaffected by the magnitude 3.7 earthquake.

Update 6:40 p.m.

According to Lt. Mike Daley of the Benicia Police Department, there have been no reports of damage, emergency situations or problems at Valero as a result of the earthquake.

"We encourage citizens to please use televison or the radio to get information about the earthquake," said Daley. 

6:30 p.m.

Benicia was rattled by a magnitude 3.7 earthquake at 6:09 p.m. tonight.  According to the US Geological Survey website the quake was centered at 38.075°N, 122.233°W which, according to Google Maps is just north of the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo.

The quake happened as the Economic Development Board was beginning to discuss the new Business Development Action Plan.
