Benicia Retailer Matching Customer Donations for Hurricane Sandy Fund

The Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Fund will benefit from the efforts of a local merchant and his customers.

Benicia’s Pedrotti Ace Hardware, located in the Southampton shopping Center, announced today, October 30, that the store is raising money for the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.   Store owner Gene Pedrotti pledged to match the first $10,000 donated by customers dollar-for-dollar.

Last year for the Red Cross relief effort in Japan after the devastating earthquake and a tsunami hit in March 2011.

With the devastation along the eastern seaboard of the United States caused by Hurricane Sandy, Pedrotti felt it was time to get involved again and is taking quick action to start the drive. Cashiers at the store are already asking customers to donate to the fund.

“A lot of it is impulse,” said Pedrotti.  “All it takes is for the cashier to ask and people will give.”

Customers may also opt to bring send a check to the store, made out to the American Red Cross.  “Please mark the memo – Hurricane Sandy”, he added.

“Observing the events following a natural disaster is not only humbling, it begs for help in a variety of ways,” said Pedrotti. “Financial support is the number one requested type of support by the American Red Cross.”

So $70,000 for the Japanese and 1/7th that for AMERICANS? You should be ashamed Gene.
JB Davis (Editor) October 30, 2012 at 04:52 pm
No he shouldn't. The money raised for the Japan relief effort was the result of many customers giving money to help and Mr. Pedrotti increasing the matching amount. Also, by matching $10,000 dollars in donations, Mr. Pedrotti's initial goal is to raise $20,000.

They do have African Americans working there Bobby. So your input is null. Please stop with your racist behavior, and who is calling the kettle black?
Riley Willerson October 30, 2012 at 09:29 pm
You Bobby are a disgusting adult, no different than many that you complain about, in my opinion, you have crossed the line with your last comment. The Poetry group. I am sure is not amused at your rhetoric nor are the readers of the patch.

I just deleted two comments. One was racist and the other was a crude personal attack. This is a reminder that users who continue to post such comments will have their Patch accounts suspended.

Thank you for drawing the line.

So how much are you planning to donate Joe?
Shouldn't you also wait until the donation is made to see what the final tally will actually total? Or is more fun to slam him based on speculation?

RIGHT ON!!!
"The Black Panther of Poetry" October 30, 2012 at 10:08 pm
Wow...Then my job here is done!!!
NEXT!!! Oh thanks Mr. Pedrotti!!!
Joe Feltcher October 30, 2012 at 10:19 pm
Yes, and those same users will be back with a new account the next day. Good luck!

Just stop being racist Joe Feltcher and stop drawing the ire of people. The new policy of Benicia Patch is "YOU PROVOKE...THEY REVOKE"!!!! I am down with that and I won't ever get an account under a pseudonym or different user name. I am REAL, you feel me?
Riley Willerson October 31, 2012 at 12:16 am
Bobby what you stated was disgusting, you respond as an adolescent not an adult, I am sure the Poetry group as well as many others have little time for that type of behavior. You are an adult? this tit for tat is something your daughter may see in high school, but not from her father. We are the role models for are children. WAKE UP!

Babaloo October 31, 2012 at 01:16 am
no,,i don't this will happen, because one of the most "racist" people who post continues to write threatening and abusive writings and "nothing is done". so,,i do not believe this will happen. if you freeze or delete my account due to my statement, you are in violation of your terms of agreement to use this site.

Good to see the artists and activists benefiting from the largesse and joining hands with ValeroRead More Corp., which has contributed huge amounts of money to fight anti-pollution propositions and paid millions in polluter fines during the past few years. Valero is #28 on Political Economy Research Institute's list of 100 (out of tens of thousands) Worst Greenhouse Polluters, not quite as bad as Koch Industries Inc (Koch Brothers) at #27 but much worse than Occidental petroleum Corp (81), Du Pont (70) Dow Chemical Co (44) and 68 others on the Top 100 list.
