Walmart will opened a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Vallejo today, Wednesday, July 17, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store, approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 501 Sereno Drive and is open from 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. The new store will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.
“Vallejo is pleased to welcome the new Walmart Neighborhood Market to our city,” stated Mayor Osby Davis. “This new store will help revitalize a vacant storefront and create jobs for local residents. I am encouraged about Walmart's investment in our city as we continue rebuilding Vallejo's economy.”
Smaller Store, More Convenience
The Walmart Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full-grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh baked breads, self-serve deli and a bakery. The Vallejo store is also tailored to the community, offering local favorites.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $6,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Recipients include Vallejo Police Department, Continentals of Omega Boys and Girls Club, Vallejo Naval Museum and Vallejo High School.
Walmart State Giving Program
The grand-opening celebration will also include a presentation of a $50,000 grant to The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano through the Walmart State Giving Program.
“We are grateful to receive the Walmart State Giving Program’s generous grant,” said Larry Sly, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. “This grant will support our Community Produce Program, which will help supply nutritious fruits and vegetable to thousands of low-income families.”
New Store, New Jobs
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Vicky Rafael began her Walmart career in 2000 as a cashier.
“Please come and see your beautiful new store on July 17,” said Rafael. “I look forward to meeting this community and working for them everyday.”
The Vallejo Neighborhood Market is one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country on July 17th.
