Patterson is Ahead-for the Moment

The ballots are in but the results in the Benicia election aren't.

Either Elizabeth Patterson or Alan Schwartzman will experience something neither has experineced before - losing an election.  Both have successfully run twice now for elected office, Schwartzman for the city council and Patterson has successfully run once for city council and once for mayor.

Patterson's lead is far from safe.  Election officials say there were about 5,000 vote by mail ballots turned in at the polls today but they don't have a breakdown of how many came from each city that held an election today.

Those ballots all require signature verification and then will be counted.  We'll be on the phone with the registrars office first thing in the morning to  get a better idea of when the final results will be in.

Tom Campbell and Christina Strawbridge are a lock to be on the City Council and Andre Stewart will be on the school board for the next four years.  Bob Langston ran away with the treasurer's race.

Matt Donahue and Gary Wing are still in a dog fight for the unenviable job of being on the school board.

And, as long as Alan Schwartzman has a chance of being the mayor, Dan Smith has a chance of being on the City Council because as the third place finisher inthe City Council election he would take Schwartzman's seat if he moves into the mayor's chair.
