The man was on parole and living with a friend when the alleged offense occurred.

From the Benicia Police Department:

On Tuesday, October 1, the Benicia Police Department began investigating a sexual child abuse case involving a 32-year-old Benicia man and a 16-year-old Benicia girl.

Johns was temporarily residing with a family friend in Benicia and had been doing so since his release from prison in August of 2013.  Last week Johns was left alone with the 16-year-old female victim and allegedly sexually assaulted her.   The victim informed her mother of the incident and the mother reported it to the Benicia Police Department.

Benicia Police Department detectives interviewed the teenage victim and others with knowledge of the incident and established enough evidence to corroborate the information.

Probable cause was established to justify arresting Johns. Benicia Police began searching for the suspect who was aware that police were looking for him.  On October 1, 2013 at approximately 8:47 p.m., police developed information that Johns was at a location in Benicia.  Johns was located in the 1000 block of Southampton Road and arrested without incident.   During an interview with police, Johns denied the allegations.

Dennis Johns has been booked into the Solano County Jail in Fairfield and his parole has been violated.  He is suspected of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and sexual battery.

No further information regarding the juvenile victim or her place of residence will be released due to the sensitive nature of this incident.
