New Chief Sworn In

Andrew Bidou officially takes the reins at Benicia Police Department.

It was standing room only at Benicia City Hall's Council Chambers as dozens of police officers, the mayor and members of the Benicia City Council and former chiefs as well as friends and family looked on as Andrew Bidou was sworn in as Benicia's newest Chief of Police.

Bidou began his remarks by announcing his distaste at being the center of attention "so this will be short," he said.

Bidou's father Pierre Bidou was a long time chief of police so his son's roots are deep in Benicia.  He credited the small town atmosphere with a childhood free from the issues that often plague larger cities.

"It's hard to drive around town and not think about my childhood," said the new chief. "We had the freedom to do whatever we wanted."
