Ernst Asks Supporters for Input

This letter was sent to friends, aquaintances and supporters of J.F. "Rick " Ernst on June 10, 2011.

Dear Benicia Friends,

Most of you are friends that I've known for many years.  Others I haven't known that long, but are true friends.  And, still others, are people I know that aren't what I would call friends, but, I value your opinion.  Hopefully, you all know which category you fit into.

The purpose of this email is to ask a few important questions.  I would appreciate an answer asap, if you have time.  Otherwise, respond when you can.  I truly appreciate your thoughts and ideas and positions.

First, I'm thinking about running for city council.  There are possibly two positions that will become open in November.  The dates for filing an application to run for city council run from July 18th through August 12th.  Christina Strawbridge has announced her candidacy; however, she doesn't become a candidate until she files her papers after July 18th.  Same with Alan Schwartzman who has announced he will be running for mayor.

One problem of which you may be aware, is that if Alan wins the mayoral election, Benicia would need to have a special election to fill his spot at this point, if Christina remains the only person running for city council.  If I run also, that problem goes away.

My first question:  What is your opinion regarding my running for city council?

Would you support me?

Would you donate money to my campaign?

Would you sit on my campaign committee?

Do you have any comments?

Please let me know.  This, of course, is important.  My decision is based on your responses to a great extent.
